About the Vineyard

Located about 10 miles north of the California border, and 5 miles south of downtown Ashland, OR, Irvine & Roberts Vineyard sits at the convergence of two mountain ranges at an altitude of 2100 feet.

The east-facing slopes expose the fruit to cooling winds that preserve the acidity of the grape, while the sunny climate makes for plump, ripe fruit.

With a commitment to sustainable practices and a belief that good soil produces good wine, Irvine & Roberts Vineyard employs techniques certified as sustainable by LIVE and Salmon Safe. They keep grape yields low to protect the health of the vine, resulting in exceptional flavor.

Irvine & Roberts Vineyard is owned by married couple Doug and Dionne Irvine and Doug’s sister and brother-in-law, Kelly and Duane Roberts, making this truly a family affair.

Process

The Estate Chardonnay, also known by Irvine & Roberts as “the Dynamic Surprise,” is made from fruit that is hand-picked by block, whole cluster pressed, and fermented individually.

For seamless integration, the juice is fermented in the barrel, which is made from tight grained French oak with a composition of 25 – 30% new oak and a medium toast. The lees are stirred on an individual basis for texture.

Tasting Notes

According to wine maker, Vince Vidrine, Irvine & Roberts’ 2017 Estate Chardonnay has a fresh citrus aroma with a hint of herbs. The palate is silky, fresh, firm, and energetic, with a subtle note of barrel spice.

Though Vidrine says he is very happily enjoying the 2017 Estate Chardonnay right now, it is also a good candidate to store in your cellar for later.
